I cannot join UDA – Speaker Muturi fires at DP Ruto, defends his position in Mt Kenya
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has addressed those urging him to join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party led by Deputy President William Ruto.
Speaking on Thursday, January 20, Muturi said he has been approached severally by some leaders to join UDA, a move he said he cannot make.
“I have been approached severally by some leaders to join the former PDR party, now UDA claiming that it’s a national party,” Muturi said before, figuratively, taking a swipe at Ruto.
“Before 2017 general election we merged all our parties to form a national party, Jubilee. You ditched the party and formed your own party to compete with the president who is the party leader. Why should I join you and what’s the difference between UDA and Jubilee?” Muturi posed.
Muturi further defended his political stand stating that the vote-rich Mt Kenya region can also produce a president ahead of the August 9 general election.
“People think that Mt Kenya can only produce a running mate. Kwanini tunajidharau hivi? Ati sisi kazi yetu ni kuenda kulamba lamba watu wengine huko ati sasa tunataka kukuwa namba mbili,” he said.
The Speaker said that Mt Kenya has produced leaders whose contribution to the development of Kenya is unmatched, adding that the region can also produce a Presidential candidate.
“The amount of Sacrifice the people of Mt Kenya have made for this country to be where it is then somebody says ati kujeni tutafute nambi mbili huku, I mean, hiyo ni madharau kubwa sana, ati anaangalia hawa anaona hawa wanafaa namba mbili, it’s not good,” Muturi said.
