Havi pledges to represent Gachagua’s interests in Parliament if elected Westlands MP
44th Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi has vowed to represent the interests of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua once he is elected as the Member of Parliament representing Westlands Constituency.
While speaking during a function held at Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party headquarters on Wednesday, March 19, 2026, which was meant to welcome businesswoman and former nominated senator Millicent Omanga to the DCP party.
Havi—who recently ditched the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and joined the Gachagua-led DCP—praised his party leader for establishing such an outfit.
Gachagua, who in the past had questioned the quality of leaders produced by the Mount Kenya region, contrasting them with those produced by the ODM party over the decades, said that the leaders produced by the late former prime minister pale in comparison to those from Mount Kenya.
He added that in 2027, he wants half of the MPs elected on the DCP party ticket to be lawyers to fill this void.

Nelson Havi stood to assure Gachagua, saying that since he wants great men and women who can speak for him in Parliament, “Behold, here I am”, assuring that he is ready to speak for Gachagua in Parliament.
“Asante sana riggy G kwa kuunda chama cha kitaifa, ambacho kitatusaidia kutoa ruto kwa mamlaka.”
“RigyG, Alisema, I want people who can speak for me in parliament: great men, great women, great lawyers. RigyG, behold, here I am to speak for you in parliament.”
DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala, who was presiding over the forum, praised the outspoken lawyer, saying that this is the quality of leaders the DCP party wants elected to Parliament.
Attempts to join ODM

This comes days after Havi ditched the UDA party and joined the DCP party. Before this, after his exit from the UDA, he was party-less for a couple of months while considering which party to join.
He at one point revealed that when undecided, he had contemplated joining the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) but, after introspection, decided he could not join a party whose Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna is not content with the direction it is taking—the same with Siaya Governor James Orengo, who, according to him, are the faces of the ODM party.
Why ditch UDA?

Regarding the reason he ditched the UDA party, which he had unsuccessfully used to contest for the Westlands seat in 2022, he stated that it no longer aligns with his beliefs, and that informed his decision to join the Gachagua-led DCP party.
“It became unbearable for me to be associated with UDA, because I am an easy-going person, and I walk by the streets, and I drive myself because I have not stolen anyone’s money, and you will be mocked by people, and they will tell you, ‘Look, have you been a good person? Please get out of that party of thieves, but even before, you remember April 2024, when UDA elections were held. I was not in the voter register. My name had already been removed,” Havi said.
