Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has revealed that he secretly supported President William Ruto’s bid in the run-up to the August 2022 polls.

Speaking during a Sunday service at Isiolo Boys High School, the county boss said he supported Ruto’s bid for the country’s top job despite being a member of the Jubilee party, one of the affiliate parties of the opposition’s Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition.

Guyo, while acknowledging the sacrifices of Ruto’s allies who stood with him through thick and thin during the campaign period, noted that he was not alone.

Leo lazima tuambiliane ukweli, kuna watu walikusupport wa mchana na sisi tulikuwa wa usiku.. Mimi na wenzangu tulikuwa wa usiku,” Guyo said.

Loosely translated, “Today we must tell each other the truth, there are people who supported you (Ruto) during the day and there are some of us who supported you at night.

President Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale were among the leaders who attended the interdenominational service on Sunday.

Guyo was the sole governor elected on a Jubilee ticket in the last general election.

The former Nairobi Majority Leader Abdi Hassan Guyo was also the first Kenyan MCA to be elected county boss since the advent of devolution a decade ago.

A majority of the leaders in the Jubilee party headed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta have since shifted allegiance to Ruto, despite the former head of state insisting that his leader is Raila Odinga, who was Ruto’s main rival in the last election.
