Graft blamed for poverty in Narok

The issue of corruption during the military and police recruitment took centre stage during yesterday’s Mashujaa Day celebration in Narok county.
Local leaders blamed the wanton sale of land in the county on the urge by parents to raise money to bribe military officers so that their sons and daughters could be picked to join the disciplined forces.
Shangoe ward MCA Moses Ole Yiampoi set the ball rolling when he protested to the county commissioner Isaac Masinde and governor Patrick Ole Ntutu that Kilgoris residents have been turned into paupers after selling their land to raise money to allegedly bribe their way into the disciplined forces.
“Here in Trans Mara, we are poor because many of our people sell their land to raise a lot of money to secure jobs for their children in the police service,” said Yiampoi saying that recruits paid as much as Sh500,000 to Sh600,000 per person.
The County Commissioner however assured that under the new government, corruption will not be tolerated during recruitment to the disciplined forces.
