Governor Guyo calls for a truce after Senate resolution on ouster motion

Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has called for reconciliation and collective focus on development after the Senate dismissed an ouster motion against him, citing procedural flaws in its initiation.
In a post on his X account on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, a day after the Senate ruling, Governor Guyo welcomed the decision and urged leaders and residents of Isiolo to embrace unity and move forward.
“The Senate resolution serves as a powerful reminder of the need for unity, justice, and people-centred leadership. It marks a time for healing and a renewed focus on serving Isiolo with integrity and inclusivity, reaffirming that truth has prevailed and that we must now move forward together,” Governor Guyo said.
Acknowledging Isiolo’s cultural and political diversity, the governor emphasised the importance of community cohesion.
“Isiolo’s diverse communities must embrace their shared identity and unity. Regardless of background, origin, or political affiliation, we are one people, brothers and sisters, bound by common dreams of peace, opportunity, and a better future,” read the statement.
Guyo appealed to all elected leaders to put aside political differences and work collaboratively for the benefit of the county.
“I therefore urge all elected leaders in Isiolo, from Members of the County Assembly, Members of Parliament, to our Senator, to come together, rise above our differences, and prioritise the development and well-being of our people,” he said.
“Our residents are looking to us for leadership, not division. Let us unite our efforts, channel our energy into service delivery, and ensure that every corner of Isiolo feels the impact of good governance. The time for blame and polarisation is over; the time for unity and progress is now.”

Guyo ouster motion relief
The Senate on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, voted to dismiss the impeachment motion against Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo Hassan, citing procedural flaws by Members of the County Assembly.
A total of 31 Senators backed the decision, while 12 opposed it.
Guyo`s legal team successfully raised a preliminary objection stating the impeachment did not take place as it is said by Members of the County Assembly of Isiolo.
Kingi informed the house last week that the Governor was facing accusations of grossly violating section 30(2)(k) of the County Governments Act by failing to deliver an annual State of the county address for the three years he has been in office.
He was accused of violating the Constitution by employing a bloated workforce, including 36 advisors in the office of the Governor, and 31 Chief Officers, yet the county has only six departments, and two Deputy County Secretaries whose positions are not recognised in law.
“This has resulted in an excessive wage bill amounting to 46% of the annual revenue allocation, which far exceeds the 35 per cent limit prescribed under section 25(1)(a) and (b) of the Public Finance Management (County Governments) Regulations, 2015,” said Kingi.
He was also accused among others of violating articles 10 (2), 73, 232 and 235 of the Constitution and sections 59, 59(A), 60, and 62 of the County Governments Act, 2012 by disregarding the criteria for the establishment of offices within the county public service by illegally creating offices for advisors and deputy county secretaries without the involvement of the County Public Service Board.
