By , May 10, 2026

Nyandarua Governor Moses Kiarie Badilisha has hailed the Democracy for Citizens (DCP) and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) parties for their participation in the Ol Kalou by-election primaries.

In a statement shared after the conclusion of the nominations on Sunday, May 10, 2026, the governor praised the people of Ol Kalou for exercising their democratic rights peacefully during the two-day exercise held on Friday and Saturday, May 9, 2026, following the death of the area MP, the late David Kiaraho.

Badilisha said the events demonstrated the true character of the residents, describing them as disciplined people who respect political diversity and the rule of law.

He congratulated both the UDA and DCP parties for affirming democracy through political decision-making and also extended his congratulations to the respective winners of the nominations.

“Events of the last two days have demonstrated the true character of our people – a disciplined population that not only obeys the laws but one that deeply values and respects political diversity and plurality of views. I congratulate the two political parties – UDA and DCP – that have affirmed the place of our democracy in political decision-making, and indeed, pass my best regards to the respective candidates who have won.”

The governor further commended all aspirants who took part in the exercise, regardless of the outcome, saying their participation enriched the country’s democratic space and strengthened the nation’s political fabric.

“As your governor and the father of the county, your Mzee wa Boma, I remain proud of each citizen’s contribution towards making our constituency and county a model of how political contests should be conducted and decided,” part of the statement read.

He also urged residents to maintain peace, tolerance, integrity, and issue-based politics as the constituency heads into the by-election contest.

Ol Kalou primaries

This comes after a stellar performance by the Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party in its Ol Kalou primaries, which saw a massive turnout dwarfing that of the UDA party. Samuel Kamau Ngotho won the ticket with 12,957 votes, with his individual tally surpassing both the turnout and the total votes of the ruling party’s exercise.

The second runner-up, Paul Waiganjo, came a distant second with 4,978 votes, while Peter Karanja came third with 3,919 votes, pushing the total turnout for the DCP exercise to over 20,000 votes, far ahead of the UDA party.

UDA Ol kalou outcome

On the other side, UDA recorded a relatively low turnout of around 8,258 votes, despite the constituency having over 72,951 registered voters. In the nominations, Samuel Muchina Nyaga emerged victorious in the UDA party primaries for the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
