Former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has opened up about her pivotal role in shaping Raymond Omollo, the current Principal Secretary for Interior, only to be sidelined and ignored by him in recent times.

Speaking during an interview with Oga Obinna on Monday night, September 1, 2025, Orwoba recounted her close working relationship with Omollo during critical political periods.

“Raymond Omollo, our PS for Interior, who nowadays doesn’t pick my calls and treats me like shit, used to call me every third day to give me a brief,” Orwoba said.

She detailed how Omollo was instrumental in managing the logistics during tense electoral periods, including personally collecting Form 34A documents, sometimes under dangerous conditions in hostile areas.

“He did a really good damn job,” she added, noting that his efforts were crucial when opposition parties needed official forms during election petitions.

Orwoba also recalled the tense moments during the election petition court case, when Omollo faced difficulties accessing key locations.

“At the point of the court case, Raymond couldn’t even access Karen. Twice he reached the gate while we were all inside waiting for updates. I even had to coordinate with the watchman to get him through,” she said.

Mentoring Omollo

Orwoba explained that she had mentored Omollo, helping him navigate political and bureaucratic intricacies.

“When the list was being put together, Raymond Kisumu called me several times because he was nervous about being overlooked. He had missed out on the cabinet secretary slot, obviously, since he’s not a politician and others were more deserving,” she said.

“When it came to the permanent secretary position, we had dinner in Lavington, and he convinced me to speak to the president on his behalf. I drafted a message reminding the president of his good work, and I sent it because I honestly believed he deserved the position.”

The former nominated senator also highlighted Omollo’s professionalism, saying he is capable and trustworthy despite not being a politician.

“People don’t know him, but he’s actually very nice and professional. I still feel he deserves recognition, even if he refuses to acknowledge our past working relationship,” she said.
