Gloria Orwoba: It is not the UDA nomination that made me who I am today
By Emmanuel Rono, April 15, 2026Former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has criticised the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leadership following her removal, insisting her political identity stands apart from her former seat.
Speaking during an interview with K24 TV on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Orwoba clarified that her personal values, not her nomination to her previous seat, define her.

“It is not the nomination that made me who I am,” she stated.
I am still a UDA member
Orwoba clarified that she is still a member of the UDA party despite her removal from the Senate.
“I am a member of the UDA party. And by the way, that question I was asked in another forum, like why are you still a member of UDA? And I explained very well that I don’t wake up one morning and radically change and say I’m going to move to another party. That’s not how I make decisions,” Orwoba said.
She explained that her decision to remain in the UDA for so long was a calculated effort to repair the system before making a decision to move on as the political cycle closes.

“That’s the same reason I persevered through all the injustices and all the nonsense that was going on from day one when we were sworn in. I started seeing so many things that William Ruto had been lying to a lot of people. But I persevered for three years. Because I was trying to say, okay, I’m going to fight from within,” Orwoba said.
“I’m the kind of person who will try to fix it until I can’t fix it anymore, and then I make the sound decision.”
Orwoba’s removal from office
“It is notified for the general information of the public that pursuant to Article 101(2) of the Constitution of Kenya, a seat of the Member of the Senate elected under Article 98(1)(b) of the Constitution, held by Senator Gloria Orwoba, has become vacant with effect from the 21st May, 2025,” the gazette notice read.

According to the removal notice, Orwoba was suspended by the UDA party for what the party termed ‘disloyalty’ after she was seen actively involved in the homecoming rally of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
“Pursuant to Article 29 of the UDA Party Constitution, and having exhaustively deliberated on the matters before it, the Party’s Disciplinary Committee has resolved that Sen. Gloria Orwoba be expelled from the membership of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party with immediate effect,” UDA Secretary-General Omar Hassan stated on Monday, May 19, 2025.
