GCK party makes changes after its leader joined UDA
The Green Congress of Kenya (GCK) party has made changes within its top ranks in the National Executive Council meeting held in Nairobi.
Politician Hillary Alila takes over from Martin Ogindo as the party leader. The former Rangwe MP who has been leader of the party since its inception stepped down after he joined President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Other officials in the party include Deputy Party Leader Vincent Willis Omuono and National Chairperson Thomas Mariwa, among others.
President Ruto appointed Ogindo for the position of Chairperson of the Kenya Fish Marketing Authority (KFMA).
Alila while addressing the press said that the GCK party is not confined by rigid ideologies or partisan boundaries, instead, he added that the party is defined by the determination of the members to put the interests of the citizens first.
“Our goal, which is clear, is to strengthen our party and lay the groundwork for a coalition that will propel us into government,” Alila said.
He explained that the next generation of voters is diverse, forward-thinking and hungry for change. The party now seeks a government that is nimble, dynamic, and in tune with the challenges that require innovative solutions.
“We welcome fresh ideas from all walks of life because this is the power of unity that can help us overcome the divisive politics of the past and focus on the common good,” Alila said while reiterating that the party stands for good governance, economic prosperity, social justice, and a sustainable future,” he added.
Ogindo praised the new leadership of the party urging it to steer the environment-conscious movement to greater heights. He explained that he left the party after Ruto’s request to have him join his UDA party.
“GCK is a party of vision and action. The main reason why I joined UDA is to help President Ruto achieve his dream of transforming this country,” Ogindo said.
Ogindo who previously served as Chairman of the Budget Committee, and a member, of the Departmental Committee on Lands & Natural Resources in Parliament during his tenure as a lawmaker is an avid environmental conservation enthusiast.
He explained that GCK also shares President Ruto’s aspirations of conserving the environment and there is no big departure from his action to join the president’s party because GCK’s vision of greening the country will still be achieved.
“UDA manifesto has a good plan for the environment and that is what President Ruto is promoting. Most of the aspirations of GCK are contained in Ruto’s plan for the country,” Ogindo added.
