Gatundu North MP-elect threatens to dump Ruto for Raila should Supreme Court rule against him

By , August 29, 2022

Gatundu North Constituency MP-elect Elijah Njoroge Kururia has threatened to leave William Ruto’s camp should the Supreme Court dismiss his declaration as the President-elect.

Kururia says he only backs Ruto because he has the President-elect’s certificate but should the Supreme Court quash the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC’s) decision, he will run to Azimio la Umoja coalition that is led by Raila Odinga.

“I’m waiting to see who between Azimio or Kenya Kwanza has the best deal I jump there. For now, I support Ruto because he has the certificate of being elected but should it be withdrawn, I will move to Azimio because my Gatundu North Constituents must remain in government,” he said.

Kururia who addressed mourners at a burial in Gatundu South urged residents to wait for the Supreme Court’s decision and thanked voters for voting for him as MP.

After Ruto was announced as the President-elect by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, Kururia, an independent MP was fast to visit Ruto’s Karen office where he announced his support for him.

His current statement of shifting camp however left residents gibberish about his double speech with many now terming him as a man without a standing.

But Kururia is not alone, nine other independent MPs elect also joined Ruto’s camp after their election but their stay in the current Second in Command’s camp remains unknown.
