Gachagua’s DCP begins member registration drive

The newly launched Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has begun the registration of new members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement, the DCP party, launched on Thursday, May 15, 2025, is calling upon Kenyans to resign from their current parties.
“Resign from your current party and register to become a member of the DCP Party,” reads the statement.
Speaking during the launch in Nairobi, DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua stated that he has spent the last 6 months at his home holding consultations to help shape his political party.
He revealed that the party has been forged on the backdrop of the need to provide better leadership for Kenyans and pull them out of the long-standing problems of poor governance.

“Kenyans have boldly told us they have a solution to the problems facing them. Kenyans have asked us to start a party that will form a government by the people for the people,” he noted.
The former deputy president declared that the party has no preferred candidates and will prioritise the voices of Kenyans, hence the party slogan “Skiza Wakenya”.
The party’s symbol is a hand holding an ear, symbolising the act of listening to netizens, with its official colours being green, red, white, and black.
Gachagua’s UDA resignation
Gachagua launched the party after resigning from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, on May 12, 2025, denouncing it as the “most dangerous political moment for the people and the Republic of Kenya.”
In a letter addressed to UDA’s Secretary General and copied to the party chairperson and Registrar of Political Parties, Gachagua accused the party of betraying its founding principles and accused its leadership of pushing the country into economic ruin, institutional decay, and constitutional contempt.
Further, he accused the party of abandoning its founding principles and squandering a historic opportunity to economically, socially, and politically transform the country.
“I have officially resigned from the UDA Party with immediate effect. The party has exhausted and wasted a Kenyan moment to take off economically, socially, and politically.”
He also cited multiple instances of what he termed as betrayal of the promises made to Kenyans under the Kenya Kwanza manifesto.
The former DP questioned the efficacy of the Hustler Fund, calling it a tokenistic initiative that “cannot start any meaningful business.”
Additionally, Gachagua lamented that key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, housing, ICT, and education had become mired in mismanagement and corruption.
