Gachagua urges youth to spearhead fight against corruption and poor governance

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on young Kenyans to lead the liberation of the country from corruption, poor governance, impunity, and what he described as deceptive leadership.

In a statement posted on his official X account on Saturday, January 24, 2026, Gachagua revealed that he addressed interim leaders of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) student caucus comprising student leaders from various institutions of higher learning in Kenya.

Gachagua said the engagement reaffirmed his belief that the youth are ready to assume a central role in confronting governance failures that continue to weigh down the country.

“I am happy our young leaders have come of age and Kenyans look upon them to spearhead liberation of our Country Kenya from the yoke of corruption, poor Governance, impunity and deceptive leadership,” Gachagua stated.

The former DP, accompanied by Nyandarua Senator John Methu, described DCP as a political home for young leaders, saying the party is committed to championing the future of Kenya’s youthful population at a time when the country risks squandering its demographic dividend.

“Our Party, DCP, is the natural home for the young leaders in Kenya; we are committed to championing the future of our youthful population,” he said.

Youth policy criticism

Gachagua accused the current administration of failing to invest in the youthful population despite Kenya’s demographic potential.

“As a Nation, we are deeply punctured in doing heavy lifting to reap our demographic dividend in the fortunes of the 21st century; But what steps has this regime taken in investing in our youthful population?” he asked.

In his remarks, Gachagua launched a sharp attack on the government, accusing it of relying on rhetoric instead of sound policy and of presiding over the erosion of institutions.

“Casual pronouncements devoid of right policy, blatant lies, hate propaganda on the youth, shoot-to-kill orders, collapse of institutions, name them!” he said.

Voter registration mobilisation

Gachagua revealed that student leaders who attended the meeting had committed themselves to mobilising young people across the country to register as voters, describing the ballot as a key instrument of political change.

“Above all, the leaders have given a firm commitment to mobilise students across the country to register as voters, the only tool to liberate their motherland and above take leadership positions with an affirmation for national liberation,” he stated.
