Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has finally broken his silence amid the impeachment debate around him.

Addressing Marikiti traders in Muthurwa Market in Nairobi County on Friday, September 20, 2024, Gachagua revealed that those leaders behind his impeachment plan are only trying to make him feel threatened.

Gachagua said he was elected by the people, and when the time comes, it is only the citizens who can remove him from office.

Wacha mimi niseme ati wananitisha, mimi ati watasanya wabunge ati waniimpeach.

Additionally, Gachagua dared those leaders behind his reported impeachment plot to face Kenyans rather than planning in hidden places.

He further said that the country belongs to all Kenyans, adding that the few who are playing dirty politics should wait until the next general elections.

The second in command went on to say that he supported President William Ruto’s presidency willingly because he believed in his vision, adding that those leaders behind his impeachment plans should respect them.

Gachagua on Marikiti traders

He further revealed that improving the working environment for small-scale businesses across the country requires structured consultations with traders for informed and inclusive decisions.

“Improving the working environment, especially for small-scale traders in Nairobi and our other major towns, requires structured consultations with them for informed and inclusive decisions.”

“This is the bedrock of the Kenya Kwanza administration for a thriving business community, driving a vibrant economy,” Gachagua disclosed.

While defending the huge presence of traders from Mount Kenya in the Marikiti market, the DP said that it was beyond his control and he should not be blamed.

The DP was accompanied by Starehe Member of Parliament Amos Mwago, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru Mejja Donk, Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa, and Members of County Assemblies among other leaders.
