Gachagua: Ruto’s strategy to remain in power hinges on dividing Mt Kenya
By Luke Oluoch, October 11, 2025Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that President William Ruto is intent on dividing Mt. Kenya voters as a strategy to maintain his grip on power.
Speaking in Mbeere South on Saturday, October 11, 2025, the DCP leader castigated Ruto’s recent offensive to woo the KANU chairman, Gideon Moi, to his side while working behind the scenes to divide the people of the mountain.
Sowing divisions
“Ruto is hatching a plan against us. He has called his people from the Tugen, Marakwet, and Kipsigis to unite,” he stated.
“But here at our home. He is sending Kindiki and other leaders to sow divisions among us,” he said.
“He knows that for him to remain in power, he has to divide the voters of Mt Kenya, but we are not fools; we have decided to put our votes in one basket. Let us not accept being divided by him and his people,” he implored.
Gachagua also hit out at politicians aligning with Ruto, urging the residents to reject them at the ballot.
On the opposition unity, Gachagua exuded confidence that they will remain united ahead of the 2027 polls.
“You asked me to unite the mountain and then focus on bringing our cousin together. I did it and we now have Kalonzo here, who is our cousin,” he told the crowd.
Kalonzo on anti-Ruto calls
He reassured the residents that they will carry their unity to the end.
“We have agreed to sit down and choose one to battle it out with Kasongo,” he added.
His remarks come after his opposition counterpart, Kalonzo Musyoka, termed the 2027 polls as crucial in salvaging the country from Ruto’s dictatorial tendencies.
Kalonzo implored Kenyans to vote out Ruto for decreeing the youth to be shot in the legs and overseeing a regime of human right abuses.
“2027 is about delivering this nation. Since independence, we have never had a dictatorial regime such as this one. Ruto has ordered our children to be shot in the leg. We also say we should shoot him at the ballot and make him a one-term president,” he stated.
