Gachagua: Ruto has totally lost control of Kenya

By , July 13, 2026

Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has launched one of his strongest attacks yet on President William Ruto, saying the Head of State has “totally” lost control of the country.

Using Facebook on Monday, July 13, 2026, Gachagua accused Ruto of surrendering his authority to govern and claimed Kenya was heading towards anarchy.

“It is no longer a secret; William Ruto has lost control of the Country and surrendered his authority to govern,” Gachagua wrote.

“He does not have a clue about what is happening.”

Security claims

Gachagua further said that rogue police officers operating in plain clothes were masquerading as goons and being deployed to attack members of the public.

He also accused unnamed senior security officials of planning and financing the operations.

“What we have are rogue police officers in plain clothes, hooded and armed, masquerading as goons and deployed to maim and fight citizens,” he wrote.

Gachagua did not provide evidence to support the allegations in his statement.

Ol Kalou claims

The former Deputy President also made claims about the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 2026.

He said that more than 80 Members of Parliament had been deployed to the constituency and that each had been assigned armed police officers disguised as goons.

“In Olkalou Constituency, ahead of the by-elections on 16th July 2026, more than 80 Members of Parliament have been assigned an average of 15 police goons each, roaming the constituency with sophisticated weapons and tear gas,” he wrote.

Police leadership

Gachagua also criticised the leadership of the National Police Service, saying the Inspector General had lost command of the service.

“The IG of Police is clueless and out of touch,” he wrote.

“The Police Service has been taken over by the CS and the PS.”

The statement marks Gachagua’s latest criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration as political campaigns ahead of the Ol Kalou by-election and the 2027 General Election continue to gather momentum.

Neither President Ruto, the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, nor the National Police Service had publicly responded to Gachagua’s remarks by the time of publication.
