Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has come to disclose that he only has two political assignments that he must fulfil before leaving the arena.

Speaking during the Ngemi Cia Watho Association Festival in Gatanga Constituency, Murang’a County, on Saturday night, November 1, 2025, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader said that one of his biggest political assignments left is taking back Mt Kenya residents at the heart of government.

The former DP told a handful of his supporters at the late-night event that taking the region into the next government was non-negotiable.

Mimi nimebakisha kazi mbili pekee yake. I must take you to the government in a big way; that I must do,” the former second in command stated.

Mentoring young leaders

The DCP leader vowed to mentor young leaders, in addition to his resolve to ensure the region secures a commanding seat in the next administration.

According to Gachagua, mentoring young leaders will ensure no leadership vacuum is left, even as the veteran legislators exit the political stage.

He further argued that young leaders would be at the forefront in defending and negotiating for the region.

“Number two and the most important one, I must mentor young leaders to take over leadership. The hole we are in as a community is because nobody cared to mentor young leaders. Ruto came and confused us because we did not have young leaders. I am in the process of mentoring young leaders,” Gachagua maintained.

Admiring Raila’s qualities

During the same event, Gachagua who was a no-show in the state funeral of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, showered him with praises, indicating that he greatly admired how he built the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the caliber of leaders who were elected under the party’s ticket.

“As we mourn Raila Odinga, I must two things about that old man and I am really very touched by his leadership. Look at the political party he built called ODM, a strong political party. Though he has never been elected president, he has been able to get to every government and get what he wants because he had a strong political party,” Gachagua stated.

“But most importantly, all his political party, all the legislators are top-notch lawyers. These are the people who have protected Raila for 30 years,” Gachagua explained.

“If you look at Raila’s team, James Orengo, Otieno Kajwang, Caroli Omondi, Peter Kaluma, Edwin Sifuna, Sterward Madzavyo, Millie Odhiambo, Tom Ojienda, Mohammed Faki, Babu Owino. Great mights- then nyinyi mnanipitia Wamatinga, Wamakeki. My people, your leader is in trouble; he has no foot soldiers,” he added.
