Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua yesterday vowed to ensure that President William Ruto loses the 2027 general election.

Gachagua accused his former boss of being a pathological liar, a character he said gave him a lot of trouble while he served under him.

“A faithful Christian, you may not be able to cope with a person who lies all the time. I was opposed to the tendency of lying to people and that’s why I opted to leave,” he said when he attended church service at PCEA Emmanuel Matanya, Waguthiru Parish, Laikipia East, Laikipia County.

He went on: “This Mt Kenya Region. God willing, I will lead this region into government, and a government that respects them and works for them. And that is going to happen. We have the numbers and all we need is to create unity and get the right friends.”

Gachagua said that the President had the intention of breaking ranks with the Central region after he ordered MPS from the Rift Valley to vote for a legislator a different region for the East Africa Legislative Assembly.

Community support

He narrated how a scuffle erupted after he protested to Ruto for ordering MPs from his home area of Rift Valley to vote for a person who is not from Mt Kenya region yet the community had given him 47 per cent of the votes that made him president.

“We had agreed as Kenya Kwanza in State House who to vote for but when the votes were counted, we lost yet Mt Kenya is majority in the ruling coalition. I asked the President, from the five seats for EALA Mt Kenya will not get even a single seat. The President told me that the MPs have already voted and we cannot overturn their decision, yet he is the one who had planned,” he said.

He stated that he opposed the decision but the President dared him not to try to interfere with the decision.

“But I stood my ground and I told him that he was being deceptive and it was not right,” he said.

Blind following

The former Mathira MP regretted that he was not able to detect Ruto’s motive early before he went all out to drum support for his presidency in Mt Kenya.

“He misused us and after he clinched the victory he damped us. I own up to my mistake of misleading the Kenyans to believe that Ruto was a good person but we are better off because if have known him early, in 2027 if he returns to power it will be worse,” Gachagua said.

The former DP said that he has now devoted his time and energy to ensure that the mistakes that were made in the past do not recur. He said the community has many friends (communities) who are willing to support their candidate as long as the people of Mt Kenya remain united.

Gachagua revealed that he has been collecting views and at the end of the month, he will give his direction.

He insisted that he has not endorsed anybody from the people who have visited him in his Wamunyoro home for any seat as some politicians are saying in the media.

“By the end of the month I will give a full report,” he promised.

He told the congregation that the biggest mistake the Central region was electing leaders who were concerned about their own interests.

He said it was wrong for people to die after consuming the brew while MPs pursued other matters which are unhelpful to the community and not raising the issue with President Ruto.

“They (legislators) are praise and worship team. They are sycophants who only respond, Yes Sir,” he said.

Gachagua recounted how they went to Laikipia to campaign with Ruto and made a lot of promises. “I delivered what I managed while serving as the DP but much of the other work was supposed to be fulfilled by the President,” he said.
