Gachagua: Kenyans just want to hear Wantam and nothing else
Rigathi Gachagua, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader, has said that Kenyans have already been pinned to the wall by the undoings of the Ruto-led government.
Speaking to a local TV station on Sunday, October 5, 2025, the outspoken political bigwig said that even topics such as education and health no longer make sense under President William Ruto’s administration.
He noted that the “Wantam” slogan, which translates to “One-Term,” has become the country’s dominant political narrative.

Gachagua sends a caution to leaders
Gachagua said that the movement has taken over national discourse and that any leader who distances themselves from it risks political irrelevance.
“If any leader moves away from the Wantam movement, they become obsolete, and I don’t think any leader can make that mistake,” he stated.
He claimed that Kenyans no longer want to hear about development topics such as health, education, or the economy.
“I’ve heard Ruto complain that we’re only talking about Wantam. Kenyans don’t want to hear about education, health, or anything else. They just want to hear about Wantam,” Gachagua said.
According to Gachagua, the growing popularity of the movement is a reflection of public dissatisfaction with the government.
He maintained that the movement is not a passing phase but a deep expression of citizens’ frustrations.

Wantam is unstoppable in Kenya
Gachagua dismissed claims that he is part of the problem facing the country, saying he is now part of the solution.
“I don’t know who these people are who see Rigathi Gachagua as part of the problem. Yes, at some point, they considered me one, but along the way, I became part of the solution.
“One of the solutions I’ve taken charge of is Wantam, and Kenyans are happy with me,” he said.
He further clarified that there are no divisions in the opposition, emphasising that the real opposition is the people of Kenya.
“There are no cracks in the opposition. Leaders may disagree, but the opposition is the people of Kenya.
“The Wantam movement is real across the country, unstoppable, and the people of Kenya are united in purpose,” he stated.
