Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said that Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Vincent Rotich put up a strong performance in the Emurua Dikirr by-election, noting that the outcome had significantly influenced political dynamics in the South Rift region.

In a statement shared on his social media pages on Friday, May 15, 2026, Gachagua congratulated Rotich for what he described as a commendable showing, saying the 10,760 votes he secured was a notable achievement in a highly competitive contest.

He said the performance reflected growing political awareness among voters and demonstrated that new political movements were gaining traction even in areas long considered strongholds of established parties.

“Congratulations to the DCP PARTY candidate in the Emurua Dikkir by-election, Hon. Vincent Rotich, for the splendid performance that has shaken South Rift politics, which for far too long, in fact for over 60 years, has been left behind in independent Kenya. A score of 10,760 votes is no mean feat,” Gachagua said.

“Congratulations to your team of campaigners and most notably the women who campaigned for you at night and odd hours. Kenya remains hopeful and greattly indebted to you and greatly hopes for a better future.”

Gachagua further noted that the result showed progress for the DCP party in building its presence in Rift Valley politics, adding that the campaign had been driven by dedicated supporters and campaigners who worked tirelessly throughout the election period.

He observed that the by-election outcome reflected shifting political trends in the region and indicated increased competition at the grassroots level, which he said would shape future political contests.

Gachagua hails Dikirr locals

The former deputy president also praised residents of Emurua Dikirr for participating in the electoral process and exercising their democratic right, saying their decision reflected political independence and maturity.

He added that he would, upon returning from his overseas trip to the United Kingdom, visit the region to engage with supporters and appreciate those who participated in the campaign for the DCP candidate.

Gachagua further expressed confidence that Vincent Rotich would remain a strong contender in future elections, saying he would be a candidate to watch in the 2027 general election.

Vincent Rotich has also come out to concede defeat and wished his well-competitor David Keter, who defeated him after garnering 18670 votes in the hotly contested bid to replace Johanna Ngeno.
