Gachagua affirms opposition’s resolve to settle on one candidate

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has exuded optimism that the United opposition will settle on a single candidate to face William Ruto in the 2027 elections.

Speaking in the company of Kalonzo Musyoka in Mumbuni, Machakos County, the Democracy for Citizens’ Party (DCP) leader affirmed that they are privy to the wisdom of retaining their unity.

“We are united as the opposition and will remain as one. I want to assure you that we will sit with the other leaders and agree on one candidate to contest against Ruto,” he stated.

The politician also revisited his cousins’ narrative while stressing the need to maintain their newfound friendship heading to the decisive 2027 polls.

“It is good to be together with cousins. The Kamba family and we are one family. We have suffered losses in this regime, but the time has come for us to sit and talk as one. The family is back together,” he stated.

Gachagua also doubled down on his criticism of Ruto, castigating the head of state for his remarks that he lacked the requisite education to help him steer the nation while serving as the second deputy president.

“I had no capacity to help you cheat Kenyans as a Christian or help you plunder the country. You told me we would work for Kenyans, but you started deflating national coffers, abducting people and killing Genz Zs, which was not part of the agenda for Kenyans,” he stated.

His remarks come after Kalonzo Musyoka fired back at President William Ruto for sending a delegation of clergy from Ukambani to persuade him to join his administration.

Kalonzo advised the church leaders not to waste their valuable time trying to engage him.

“Ruto has stated that he has sent church leaders to prevail over Ukambani leaders after the people reportedly rejected his developmental projects. I want to ask them not to waste their time,” he said.

Musyoka emphasised that everyone has a right to development regardless of political affiliation.

“I want to tell the church leaders to safeguard the respect of society and that of their faithful followers,” he stated.

Right to development

“Our constitution aptly states that the right to development is a constitutional right. It says there shall be equal development without discrimination, therefore you cannot claim that a region has refused projects aimed to bring development to them. This deceit and it must end,” he stated.
