Gachagua accuses Northern Kenya leaders of scaring journalists ahead of his interview
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, January 22, 2026Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) party leader Rigathi Gachagua has pointed fingers at Northern Kenya leaders ahead of his planned interview that is set for Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm
Taking to his social media handle on Thursday, January 22, 2026, the former impeached deputy president has said that the efforts by the leaders to intimidate and scare journalists to stop them from airing the scheduled interview deny the people of northern Kenya the right to hear the problems affecting them, including bad governance.
“There is a very serious effort by leaders from Northern Kenya to scare and intimidate journalists as well as radio stations not to air our interview tonight to deny the residents of Northern Kenya from knowing what ails the region,” Gachagua stated.

They will not succeed
Rigathi has further gone ahead to warn the leaders that they will not succeed in their quest to silence him from telling the truth to the people of the northern region, adding that they could succeed in a day but not forever.
“My promise to you, you will not succeed! If journalists can be intimidated to deny their listeners an opportunity to face the truth about their lack of development and poverty, who will help the people of Northern Kenya? For the leaders of Northern Kenya, you can suppress the truth today, but not forever. In the fullness of time, the truth will come out, and the journey to liberate the residents of the North from bad Governance and theft of public resources begins in earnest,” added Gachagua.
In his statement, Gachagua has called out journalists who are afraid of carrying on with the interview, stating that this would undermine the independence of the media while hailing those who he said are courageous to be truthful in reporting, insisting that thehour of the scheduled interview has remained intact.
Gachagua’s sentiments come at a time when his sentiments about northern Kenya development have sparked a debate from various leaders from the region.
He had accused the leaders of the area of mismanagement of funds they receive for development, including the equalisation funds, yet the region has lagged in development.
