People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has positioned herself as a change agent for Kenya ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a post on her official X account on Saturday, April 11, 2026, Karua, while addressing a seemingly common challenge among African nations, explained the significance of the 2027 polls and why she is the right candidate to turn wishes into reality if elected as president.

Karua, who recently declared her presidential bid, vowed to offer her service for the change which she says Kenyans often joke about its existence elsewhere.

Karua candidly explained her determination to drive the change often desired by Kenyans in what she described as matching the faith with action.

“We joke in Kenya that we pray and the answers show up elsewhere. It’s time to match that faith with action and claim the change where we are. I will be on the ballot, offering myself in service of that change,” Karua said.

Karua, who was a speaker at the DA Young Leaders Community at the FNF Head Office in Johannesburg, called for a ballot revolution rooted in accountability and values.

“Across Africa, change will not be gradual; it will be decided at the ballot. In Johannesburg, speaking to the DA Young Leaders Community at the FNF Head Office, I called for a ballot revolution rooted in accountability and values,” Karua said.

“Young people are already leading this moment in Kenya by organising, registering, and voting,” she added.

Karua’s Presidential bid

Her remarks come months after she declared she would not be a running mate in the upcoming 2027 general elections, vowing to go all in as a presidential candidate.

Speaking on Friday, February 27, 2026, during an interview with a local media house, Karua explained her next steps in the case if she loses in the elections.

On her part, Karua explained that if she is not nominated as a presidential candidate by a coalition, she will run independently.

“I’m not willing to be someone’s running mate. But in the event that I’m not nominated, I am a presidential aspirant myself. Ruto is a sitting president; I am a standing president,” Karua said.

In addition, Karua affirmed her support for whoever is selected if she misses the top position in the 2027 general elections, but maintains she will not deputise anyone.

“If I am not selected, I am willing to one hundred per cent support whoever is selected in accordance with the systems we are going to put in place. This means if I miss that position, I will not deputise anyone,” Karua added.

During a recent interview on K24 TV, Karua further gave a glimpse of what her presidency would look like.

Karua painted a picture of a law-driven administration anchored on accountability, transparency, and strict adherence to constitutional principles, should Kenyans elect her.

“I am a standing president, Ruto is the sitting president. I am the standing president waiting for the slightest vacancy, and I will be seated,” Karua said.
