Fredrick Okango: Dont twist Gachagua–Oburu meeting
Fredrick Okanga, a strategic advisor to the Cooperatives and SMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, has warned against twisting the recent meeting between Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Odinga and Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua.
In a statement shared on his social media accounts on Friday, February 13, 2026, Okanga said that the meeting should not be misrepresented or portrayed as preplanned or secret, as some had earlier suggested.
According to him, the encounter should be understood simply as the two political leaders having bumped into each other, just like any other ordinary meeting between individuals.

“Dr Oburu bumping into United Opposition leaders at Muthama’s son’s funeral should not be twisted into something it wasn’t. Even Ruto could attend the same funeral — that wouldn’t make it a secret meeting.”
Amisi’s view
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has also come out to react to the Oburu-Gachagua meeting, likening it to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s encounter with Gachagua, where they also bumped into each other at a funeral.
This incident was the genesis of Sifuna’s woes with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and contributed to his attempted ouster from the secretary general position.
Caleb Amisi has subtly called on the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) to convene and administer similar punishments to Oburu.
Oburu-Gachagua meeting

Kiambu Senator Karung’o Thang’wah, who accompanied Gachagua to Machakos, shared the photos on Friday, February 13, 2026, confirming the meeting.
The two, who have often been on opposite sides, trading political blows, were captured sharing a light moment, greeting each other, and even hugging, while also appearing solemn in the sombre mood of the funeral.
“Sen. Dr Oburu has been reminded by H.E. RiggyG that Canaan is in the Middle East while Singapore is in Asia, so there is no way you can reach Canaan through Singapore unless you have no sense of direction and/or are completely lost,” the Kiambu senator’s statement read.
