He also served as the Member of Parliament of Likoni from 1992 to 1997 after beating Abdulkadir Abdalla Mwidau of KANU. He was voted on a Ford Kenya party ticket.

In 2015, his wife went missing following a deadly tragedy at an event described as a “crush and stampede” which caused the deaths of over 2000 pilgrims in Mina, Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

The pilgrims suffocated or were crushed during the event which is an annual Hajj pilgrimage making it the deadliest Hajj disaster ever witnessed in history.

The family was informed by an official from Al Buraq Hajj and Umrah travel agency that had facilitated her travel to Saudi Arabia that she had been spotted inside one of the ambulances being rushed to hospital.
