Elachi rules out Raila leading ODM troops to Wamunyoro

Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Beatrice Elachi has spoken candidly about the loyalty and discipline that define the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), describing the unwavering commitment members have toward party leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a political talk show hosted by a local television station on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Elachi said ODM has always been guided by the unity of purpose, a principle built on trust in Raila’s leadership. She said members do not act on impulse or personal interest, but rather follow the direction set by their leader.

“At ODM, whatever Raila says, we do, left or right, we move in that direction without question,” Elachi said, emphasising the culture of order within the party.

Her remarks come at a time when the political landscape continues to shift, with debates around party discipline and ideological consistency taking centre stage. Elachi made it clear that ODM’s decisions are not based on emotional reactions or temporary alliances but on a shared belief in Raila’s political vision.

She, however, drew a sharp distinction between loyalty and blind allegiance, saying that while ODM members follow their leader faithfully, they also remain grounded in the party’s values and mission.

“But one thing’s for sure: he would never tell us to go to Wamunyoro,” she said, adding that the party’s identity is shaped by strong principles and a clear sense of purpose.

Elachi noted that the ODM movement stands for progressive politics, one that champions social justice, inclusivity, and good governance. She observed that the current political environment has exposed how many parties have drifted from ideology, focusing instead on personalities and political deals.

“We have not taken our ideologies seriously,” she remarked, hinting that Kenya’s politics risks losing direction when principles are traded for convenience.

As the country heads toward another election cycle, Elachi’s words serve as a reminder of the importance of party discipline and the enduring influence of Raila Odinga in shaping Kenya’s political conversation.
