Didmus Barasa warns rivals to steer clear of his campaigns
By Luke Oluoch, August 13, 2025Kimilili MP and Bungoma gubernatorial hopeful Didmus Barasa has urged his political opponents to steer clear of his campaigns.
Speaking in Kabuchai Constituency, Bungoma County, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the lawmakers dismissed a section of the politicians who have been advising him on the best way to go about his campaign, stressing that he is not in need of their unsolicited advice.
Barasa also called out the county’s majority leader and deputy speaker for interfering with his campaign, yet they have declared support for a different candidate in the race for the county’s governor.
Leave my politics alone
“We have different religions, but all focus on leading people to heaven; each has its way of worshipping. The same applies to politicians. I want to be the governor of Bungoma, and the leader of the majority and deputy speaker have been here and stated that they will be supporting a different candidate. “I want to tell them to leave me to do my politics my own way. Let them focus on their candidate; I will focus on my politics and do things my way,” he stated.
“My style of campaigning has nothing to do with you; focus on your candidate, and the wananchi will decide,” he added.
Barasa also took on the governor, Kenneth Lusaka, whom he accused of using his financial might to intimidate him.
“My friend Lusaka also thinks he has loads of cash to threaten me. I have been an MP for eight years now, and I equally know much,” he added.

His sentiments come after he expressed confidence in his ability to compete against seasoned politicians in the county’s gubernatorial race.
Speaking on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in a rally, Barasa insisted that he will not be intimidated by prominent names in a race that has also attracted Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, businessman Zechariah Barasa, and former governor Wycliffe Wangamati, among others.
“Si mumeskia Governor Ken Lusaka anamaliza miaka yake kumi anaenda kufanya kazi zingine? Hii kiti ya governor ya Bungoma naweza, niendelee mbele?” Barasa said, signalling his readiness to vie for the seat despite the presence of established political figures.
Speaking to supporters, Barasa reiterated his resolve to forge ahead without fear.
“Kwa vile mumesema niendelee mbele sirudi nyuma, mimi sitishiki na majina makubwa, tutaonana na hao watu,” he stated, emphasising that he is undeterred by the stature of his rivals.
