Didmus Barasa warns Bungoma senator Wakoli of political downfall if he fails to perform his role
Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa has warned Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli of a political downfall if he fails to deliver on his county oversight role.
While speaking during a funeral in Kabuchai on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, Barasa told the senator that if he fails to step into Moses Wetangula’s shoes, who used to offer meaningful oversight and never kept quiet when the county was going in the wrong direction, 2027 might become his political Waterloo.
According to the MP, the county government is currently in disarray, with the senator, who is supposed to carry out oversight and keep the county on its toes, not fulfilling his role.

“Huyu senator wa Bungoma ambaye nilitafutia kura, usiposukuma Lusaka you are letting down the speaker of the National Assembly, na wananchi hawa watakupeleka nyumbani.”
He told Wafula that he is among the people who are letting the Speaker down, which, according to him, was evidenced in the Chwele-Kabuchai ward by-election loss, saying that if the senator continues to relax, he should forget the 2027 seat.

Long-serving MCA’s
He also stated that all the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs, most of whom were elected on the Ford Kenya party and have served for long, are the ones hindering oversight for not carrying out their mandate).
Since, according to Barasa, they are also contributing to Wetang’ula’s waning influence in the county.
“Nataka nikuambie, speaker, wewe kama party leader wa Ford Kenya, hawa MCAs ambao wamekaa miaka mingi sana, ambao kazi yao imewashinda, mimi nakuomba speaker wale maMCA wapelekwe nyumbani.”
Message to Wetang’ula
Didmus Barasa has also told Wetang’ula to his face that those letting him down are the people around him.

Speaking during a funeral in Kabuchai, Barasa said that individuals Wetang’ula employed after assuming the Speaker’s position, as well as those close to him, are the ones letting him down.
This comes at a time when Barasa has hit the ground running, vying for the gubernatorial seat, with him set to face Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi as his major opponent.
