Deputy Chief Whip to know fate today
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula will rule today whether nominated MP Sabina Chege (pictured) will continue being the deputy minority whip.
The move follows a decision by Azimio la Umoja coalition to de-whip her on the day MPs turned the chamber into a shouting match.
MPs from both sides of the House shouted at each other after Eldas MP Adan Keynan who was elected on a Jubilee ticket tried to stop the leader of Minority Opiyo Wandayi from seeking a statement from Wetangula on when he would communicate Chege’s fate.
So bad was the situation that Wetangula was forced to kick out Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi from the chamber due to failure to adhere to his ruling to maintain order in the House.
Immediately he was thrown out, Azimio MPs also walked out of the chamber leaving Kenya Kwanza lawmakers, at a time when the House was waiting to be addressed by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.
The chaos in the House came after Wandayi protested the delays by Wetangula to give a response regarding the matter following a letter he wrote to him a month ago communicating the coalition’s decision to de-whip Chege. In his statement, Wandayi threatened to have the House business paralysed if the speaker did not communicate on the matter.
