Defiant Khalwale hits back at UDA over plans to dewhip him
By Luke Oluoch, October 25, 2025Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has remained defiant, insisting that he will not back down despite threats by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party to de-whip him as Senate Majority Whip.
Speaking in Malava Constituency on Saturday, October 25, 2025, the Senator blamed the ruling party for coordinating a campaign of witchhunt over his stance on the upcoming Malava by-election.
No compromise
“There is no compromise. Those threats of firing me. They are forcing me to take a stand against my community for a mere position. I cannot fight my house because of the positions. I was a Luhya before I became an MP, a senator, and government Chief Whip,” he said.
The senator has stated that ranks and positions are transient and will one day come to pass.
“One day, all these positions will go away and I will remain a Luhya,” he stated.
His remarks come days after the United Democratic Alliance moved to rein in the senator for engaging in a breach of the party’s code.

Show-cause letter
In a letter dated October 9, 2025, and signed by Charles Njenga, Chairperson of the UDA Disciplinary Committee, the party accuses Khalwale of openly supporting a candidate from a rival political party.
The party cited the senator’s “open, vocal, conspicuous and substantial” support for the opposing candidate as a clear indication of promoting a position against UDA’s interests.
According to the letter, such conduct is contrary to the expected behaviour of party members as outlined in the party’s constitution and code of conduct.
“These include, but are not limited to, your open support and participation in the campaigns of a candidate from a different political party who is competing with the UDA candidate in the scheduled by-election for Member of Parliament, Malava Constituency.
The senator has publicly supported his professional colleague and Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) candidate Seth Panyako in the upcoming Malava by-election, a move that has placed him at odds with his own party, UDA, which has fronted David Ndakwa for the seat.
