CS Ruku: Mbeere North has already decided, our next MP is Leo wa Muthende
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has declared his firm support for Leo wa Muthende in the upcoming Mbeere North by-election, saying residents have already made up their minds on who will represent them in Parliament.
Speaking during an interview at a local TV station on Monday, November 10, 2025, Ruku said the people of Mbeere North know what they need and have settled on a leader who understands their challenges and aspirations.

“I am very interested in the Mbeere North by-election because the people of Mbeere North and the entire area know what we need. I have been engaged in the campaigns,” Ruku stated.
The CS defended his involvement in the campaigns, saying the law allows Cabinet Secretaries and County Executive Committee members (CECs) to participate in political activities.
“The law allows CSs and CECs to involve themselves in politics. The people of Mbeere North have already made a decision that the candidate we are going to vote for as the next MP is Leo wa Muthende,” he added.
“We don’t want empty words; we don’t want people who come to abuse others within the region. We don’t want those coming with the narrative that Kenya is a country of shares,” he said.

Campaigns
His remarks come a day after the Kenya Kwanza leaders stormed Ishiara Market in Mbeere North, making a powerful show of force at a high-profile goat auction that saw Ksh6 million spent.
The event, which attracted thousands of traders and residents on Saturday, November 8, 2025, quickly turned into a dynamic political rally, with leaders urging voters to back Leonard Muthende, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate in the upcoming Mbeere North parliamentary by-election.
While President William Ruto was unable to attend in person, he made his presence felt by sending Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah to purchase goats with Ksh3.5 million.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also contributed Ksh1.5 million, while both Governor Cecily Mbarire and Ichung’wah each spent Ksh500,000 on goats. The collective show of generosity was not only aimed at supporting local traders but also reaffirmed the government’s development agenda in the region under the UDA banner.
Governor Mbarire, who spearheaded the event, rallied residents to support Muthende, describing him as the right leader for the constituency.
“Muthende is the only candidate you can trust. He has the vision, leadership skills, and energy to take Mbeere North forward,” she said.
