Court upholds Nyamira governor Amos Nyaribo’s victory

By , February 16, 2023

The High Court has upheld the election of Amos Nyaribo as Nyamira Governor in a ruling delivered by Justice Kanyi Kimondo on Thursday, February 16.

The judge consequently dismissed the petition by Dennis Ayiera, citing a lack of sufficient evidence to overturn the poll’s victory.

Reacting to the judgement, Nyaribo expressed his satisfaction saying it brings an end to tension and uncertainty in the county.

“Today’s ruling by Justice Kanyi Kimondo is a clear confirmation that we built and ran clean, popular and peaceful campaigns during the 2022 electioneering period. The ruling brings closure to the politicking tension and uncertainty we have experienced as a county since the August 9 general elections,” part of the statement read.

Ayiera in his petition challenged the election of governor Amos Nyaribo and asked the court to order scrutiny and recount of votes.

The complainant further claimed there were many errors that denied UDA governor candidate Walter Nyambati victory.

The petitioner had claimed there was vote manipulation that saw Nyambati’s votes given to other candidates, including Nyaribo.
