Cherargei: If Linda Mwananchi politicians are men enough, let them go to Kisumu
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has dared the Linda Mwananchi team that if they are man enough, they should proceed to hold rallies in Vihiga and Kisumu as they have planned.
While speaking on the floor of the Senate on Thursday, April 23, the outspoken politician went heavy on Sifuna, who had raised some reservations about the compensation of victims.
“If linda mwananchi are men enough, let them hold a rally in Vihiga and Kisumu.”
He told Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna that he has been so preoccupied with Linda Mwananchi’s affairs that he has forgotten what was in the memorandum of understanding between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Sifuna’s rebuttal
Edwin Sifuna, while choosing a very polite approach, rebutted. He told his Nandi counterpart that the right to expression is entrenched in the Constitution. He added that every Kenyan is allowed to move from one place to another to express whatever opinion they may have. He also said he is not a person to be threatened.
He further urged the Nandi senator that if he has an agenda to sell, he is welcome to any part of the country to do so. He said nobody will interfere with it.
Sifuna further asked the Speaker to urge Cherargei to withdraw the statements from the record.
While continuing to express his disappointment, the Nairobi senator said he did not expect such from him. He noted that Cherargei is a young member. He said such narratives would have been expected from an old politician and not a young Turk like him.
Atandi’s warning
On the other hand, Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi has stated that the Linda Mwananchi rally, scheduled to take place in Kisumu, will not proceed.
While speaking during an interview on the Herman Manyora podcast aired on Thursday, April 23, 2026, the outspoken budget committee chair said Kisumu residents are not interested in the rally and will not attend it.
“First of all, it will not happen, so there is nothing that will make the rally successful. The rally can only happen if the people of that area are interested in it.”
He further stated that the Linda Mwananchi team plans to import youths from various universities around Kisumu to attend their highly publicised event, as he believes the people of Kisumu are not interested in the rally.
Linda mwanachi rally

The Linda Mwananchi team has insisted that they will proceed with their planned political rally in Kisumu, stating that the event will go on “come rain, come sunshine”.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has maintained that, with or without what he termed ‘goons’, the rally must be held in the lakeside city.
The Kisumu rally was triggered by an earlier incident in which one of the movement’s principals, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, was injured by individuals believed to be goons, leading to his hospitalisation at Karen Hospital for three days. In what can be described as an act of defiance, they resolved to hold a rally in Kisumu City to send a message that they cannot be intimidated or silenced through violence.
The group emphasised that their decision to stage the rally in the same region where one of their leaders was attacked is meant to reaffirm their presence and assert that their constitutional rights to freedom of movement and expression must be respected.
