Caroli Omondi: Nyanza locals are waiting on United Opposition direction to decide 2027 direction
By Mabonga Makhanu, March 23, 2026Suba South Member of Parliament (MP) Caroli Omondi has stated that Luo Nyanza locals are awaiting what will come out of the united opposition before making their decision on how they will vote in 2027.
While speaking during an interview with a local media station on Sunday night, March 23, 2026, the now Azimio la Umoja Secretary General dismissed the ‘TUTAM’ chants that have been witnessed in the Nyanza region during President Ruto’s visit, saying that they were the making of leaders allied to the government and were not genuine.

Caroli Omondi continued to state that, as the Secretary General of Azimio la Umoja, which was the last coalition party of the late Raila Odinga before his departure, he will ensure that the coalition presents a presidential candidate and a running mate in 2027 under the Azimio coalition party.
Azimio la Umoja ticket
He added that, as the Nyanza region, they owe a lot to other communities within the Azimio fraternity who came out to support Raila Odinga in 2022, and for that reason, he will not let them down.
Since they stood with them, he will ensure that they reciprocate by making sure that the presidential candidate and running mate emanate from the broader Azimio la Umoja, parts of which, such as Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party and Martha Karua’s People’s Liberation Party (PLP), were previously part of but are currently in the united opposition.

“The people in Nyanza are waiting to see what will come out of the United Opposition, and as Caroli Omondi, I want to assure you that the presidential ticket will have pure Azimio candidates, including the deputy presidential candidate,” he said.
He also added that there are people who supported their late leader either as ODM or through a coalition with ODM, saying that it is high time they paid back such support.
Caroli Omondi also took a swipe at President Ruto’s tours in the Nyanza region, claiming that the majority of the crowds are hired and not genuine, referencing the one at Mbita.
Mbadi’s argument
This contradicts leaders aligned to the state, such as Treasury CS John Mbadi, who, during an interdenominational church conference at Mbadi, Nyanza, stated that the region is ‘TUTAM’ and will support President Ruto in 2027, after which they will take over leadership in 2032.
