Caroli Omondi: Linda Mwananchi must produce a presidential candidate
By Mabonga Makhanu, June 10, 2026Suba South MP and Azimio Secretary General Caroli Omondi has affirmed that the Linda Mwananchi movement must produce a presidential candidate in the next general election.
Speaking during an interview with K24 TV, the outspoken legislator stated that if the movement’s preferred flag bearer does not make it onto the ballot, then he would be the one negotiating with other like-minded political formations seeking to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
“Linda Mwananchi must produce a presidential candidate in 2027,” he said.

Linda Mwananchi/opposition’s merger
His remarks come at a time when the Linda Mwananchi movement has shown willingness to partner with the broader opposition in its quest to unseat President Ruto.
The movement’s team leader, Edwin Sifuna, has openly declared that Linda Mwananchi is ready to work with any political outfit that shares its objective of sending President Ruto home in 2027.
Sifuna argued that there is a growing understanding among Kenyans that the opposition must approach the 2027 election as a united force in order to avoid splitting votes.
He maintained that he does not want to be part of arrangements that could divide opposition supporters and ultimately allow President Ruto to secure re-election with a narrow margin, as was witnessed in the 2022 elections.
Linda Mwananchi opposition coordination
The United Opposition has also expressed its readiness to collaborate with Linda Mwananchi, a movement that largely consists of rebels from the ODM party.
DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa recently revealed that the two camps have already begun working together and coordinating their political activities.
According to Wamalwa, whenever Linda Mwananchi is holding rallies in Eastern Kenya, the united opposition focuses on Western Kenya to avoid possible clashes and duplication of events.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has also been courting the Sifuna-led outfit. Gachagua has argued that just like the principals in the united opposition, members of Linda Mwananchi also harbour presidential ambitions and are yet to settle on a single flag bearer.
He stated that if the movement identifies a formidable presidential candidate, opposition leaders would be willing to shelve their individual ambitions and rally behind such a candidate.
Amisi rejects possible merger

However, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has rejected calls for a merger between the two camps. According to Amisi, the united opposition is largely made up of legacy politicians who have occupied public office for many years without providing lasting solutions to the country’s challenges. He argued that many Kenyans are not interested in seeing the same leaders recycled back into power.
