Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has called for greater political tolerance in the country, as he warned against persistent attacks on persons perceived to be rebels within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party.

Speaking to a local TV station on Thursday, January 15, 2026, Omondi, who recently announced his decision to leave the ODM party, stated that people should desist from attempting to bastardise members who think differently or offer alternative political direction, especially from the Nyanza region.

He called for politicians to be allowed to speak their minds, just as voters do their role in making their decisions and having their voices heard through the ballot.

Tolerance

“Stop abusing Babu. Let him say what he wants; people will soon decide in the future what is best for them and the direction they want. But in the meantime, let him speak and give him a listening ear.”

“Let us be tolerant and listen to each other,” he stated.

Omondi also spoke on the divisions and infighting within the ODM party, expressing his opinion on why a section of the top party members have remained silent amid heated debates over allegiance to President William Ruto’s second term.

Raila’s legacy

“Raila used to respect Anyang Nyong’o very much. He viewed him as a strategic thinker and a foresighted man. He used to tell me, ‘Listen when Nyong’o speaks; to date, Nyong’o has never spoken on the issues of broad-based government and other politics,’” he stated.

“Orengo has a clear mind as a legal scholar, and when you see them silent over some issues, I can understand why. There was a way Raila used to go about his work, and knowing that, I can tell you there are very many issues—only a person with a proper perspective can see and sort these things out,” he added.

His remarks come after he also warned against the ODM party undoing all the legacy that was left by its late leader, Raila Odinga.

Caroli faulted the tendency of party top leadership to rush into decisions without wider consultation, adding that the recent meeting needed broader input before adopting measures.

Raila built a legacy in this party that people are risking to destroy. I worked with him for long periods, and what I see is people hell-bent on destroying the legacy he left behind,” the former Raila aide stated.
