Caleb Amisi: Political intolerance has no space in modern Kenya
Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has condemned rising political intolerance in the country, calling on leaders and citizens alike to embrace maturity, tolerance, and respectful engagement as Kenya seeks to strengthen its democratic foundations.
In a statement shared on Saturday, July 4, 2026, the outspoken lawmaker said acts of political intolerance have no place in a modern democratic society, urging Kenyans to reject divisive politics and instead work towards national unity and peaceful coexistence.
“This kind of political intolerance has no space in modern Kenya. Let us mature. Kenya needs a renaissance!” Amisi said.

The legislator has emphasised that democracy thrives when citizens are free to express divergent political views without fear of intimidation, harassment, or violence. He noted that respect for differing opinions is essential in fostering national cohesion and safeguarding the country’s democratic gains.
Amisi’s call for Kenyans to “mature up” is an appeal to political leaders and their supporters to move away from confrontational politics and instead champion dialogue, mutual respect, and issue-based debates that address the country’s pressing socio-economic challenges.
His appeal culminated in a call for a national renaissance, a renewal of Kenya’s political culture founded on accountability, inclusivity, tolerance, and respect for constitutional rights. Such a transformation, he suggested, is necessary if the country is to overcome recurring political divisions and build a more united and prosperous future.
Linda Mwananchi attacked in Kisii
The statement from the lawmaker has come hours after the opposition’s Linda Mwananchi Brigade was, on Friday, June 3, 2026, forced to temporarily suspend part of its political tour in Kisii County after suspected goons disrupted a public rally in Keumbu, leaving several people injured and causing panic among supporters.
The goons blocked sections of the Kisii–Keroka road before descending on the gathering, forcing supporters to scatter as running battles briefly ensued. Opposition leaders accused their political rivals of orchestrating the disruption, although the allegations had not been independently verified.

Despite the incident, opposition members maintained that the attack would not derail their nationwide mobilisation campaign ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The Kisii tour had been billed as a key stop for the Linda Mwananchi Brigade following successful rallies in several parts of the country.
