Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has issued a scathing warning to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership, accusing the party of self-destruction through internal infighting at a time when President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is steadily making inroads into traditional ODM strongholds.

Taking to his official X account on Thursday, January 15, 2026, Amisi claimed that ODM’s internal chaos, coupled with the emergence of new political outfits, is weakening the party from within and eroding the legacy of its long-time leader, Raila Odinga.

Amisi further warned that the ruling party is capitalising on ODM’s internal wrangles to penetrate regions long considered Raila Odinga’s political backyard. According to Amisi, the focus by some ODM leaders on premature succession battles and internal power struggles is distracting the party from consolidating its base ahead of the 2027 General Election.

New political parties

He claimed that the new party set to be unveiled by former Deputy Chief of Staff Eliud Owalo, who has since declared his 2027 presidential ambition, is more of a UDA party.

“As ODM is busy sponsoring youths to attack and kill Caleb Amisi, @edwinsifuna, and @HEBabuOwino, new parties are being launched by Eliud Owalo and David Ochieng. And UDA is getting inroads into ODM strongholds, including Nyanza and Western,” Amisi stated.

Amisi further urged the ODM party leader, Oburu Oginga, to go slow on the 2027 pre-election coalition agreement with UDA, warning that the move could easily kill the late Raila Odinga’s party and his legacy.

“Somebody should talk to Dr Oburu to relax, calm down, and respect his brother’s legacy. Elections are in 2027, not February 2026. Hizi mbio anapelekwa na Junet, Simba, Abdulswamad na Wanga zitamumaliza na kuua chama ya baba,” Amisi wrote on X.

He went ahead to argue that President William Ruto is aiming at entering an agreement with a dead ODM so that he can easily swallow it the way he did to Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC).

“Ask Mudavadi where his party is. Ruto does not need you in full. He needs you in pieces,” Amisi stated.

UDA-ODM negotiations

President Ruto’s UDA has approved the proposed plans to initiate negotiations with the ODM party, paving the way for an imminent pre-2027 coalition talks deal between the two.

The National Executive Committee, in a statement dated Wednesday, January 14, 2026, following a meeting presided over by President William Ruto, advised the party leadership to establish mechanisms for the said structured engagement to achieve the desired outcome.

“The NEC noted the decision of the ODM Party Central Management Committee to initiate structured negotiations with the UDA Party, in the Kenya Kwanza Coalition, to strengthen the ongoing political partnership and negotiate a coalition agreement ahead of the 2027 general elections and MANDATED the UDA Party Leader to establish mechanisms for structured engagement with the ODM party to achieve the desired outcome,” part of the statement read.
