Caleb Amisi explains why Sifuna should be in 2027 presidential race

The Linda Mwananchi leadership has intensified its presidential bid to oust President William Ruto from office as it insists on only accepting its outfit leader, Edwin Sifuna, as the opposition presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.

The team has revealed that it will not accept supporting any other candidate from the united opposition apart from the Nairobi senator currently leading the group.

Speaking in Kitale on Saturday, May 16, 2026, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi said the youth are demanding a new generation of leadership, warning that political miscalculations within the opposition could hand President William Ruto a second term.

“Our generation wants new people and we cannot afford to mess up in this coming elections because the young people want a new face in this game,” Amisi said.

Confidence in new generation

He said that the new generation has no confidence in the old politicians and is now working to use new faces to take up leadership of the country. He said the movement was formed to champion youthful leadership and provide hope to Kenyans seeking political change.

He warned that there could be voter apathy if a young person will not be supported to vie against President Ruto in the 2027 elections.

“The reason why we formed this team is to give hope to our young people who are demanding change,it was not for Gachagua, Kalonzo or any other candidate in the opposition to be president. We did it to ensure we send President William Ruto home.”

“We risk having a voter apathy in 2027 if we will not support the young person who is Sifuna for presidency,we want the United opposition team to support Sifuna who is our Linda Mwanaichi candidate unlike vis verse,” he warned.

Time for youths to lead

The opposition brigade revealed that the Linda Mwanaichi team’s political aspirations resonated well with the young people and urged the old guards in the united opposition to support Edwin Sifuna for presidency.

He said the government has failed its people to empower poor Kenyans and revamp the economy but the move also indicates a tense moment among the opposition leaders ahead of 2027 elections.

“ It’s time for young people and if the opposition does not work to support Sifuna ,then we will have a big problem, Ruto will be re-elected because of our mistakes and wrong decisions,” he added.

Wamalwa support to Sifuna

Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has also stated that he is ready to throw his support behind Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna should his prospects of becoming president be high.

While speaking during an interview on Herman Manyora’s podcast aired on Friday, May 16, 2026, Wamalwa, when asked by the host whether he is ready to shelve his presidential ambitions in support of his kinsman Edwin Sifuna, responded by saying, “Why not?”

The former defence minister further stated that both the united opposition and the Linda Mwananchi camp are behind the “Wantam” banner and will not hesitate to work together in their bid to unseat the current regime, which they all disagree with.

“We are ready to sacrifice; we are ready to bear any burden to make sure wantam becomes a reality.”
