Caleb Amisi condemns hurling of teargas in church service attended by Gachagua
By Kiprono Keileb, November 30, 2025Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has strongly condemned the police after teargas was fired inside PCEA Kariobangi North Church on Sunday, November 30, 2025, where worshippers, including small children, had gathered for a thanksgiving service.
The service was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following the victory of David Warui, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate who won the Kariobangi North MCA seat in the Thursday, November 27, 2025, by-election.
The incident left children and congregants choking and scattering in panic inside their place of worship, prompting outrage from leaders.

Unacceptable
Amisi, who posted a strongly worded statement on X on Sunday, November 30, 2025, said the police action was unacceptable and a threat to the country’s moral and democratic fabric. He expressed concern about the long-term impact such traumatic experiences could have on young children.
“These are very small kids. They have been teargassed inside their place of worship,” he said.

He added that the children’s only act was attending church early in the morning for worship, questioning how a government expects respect from traumatised children.
“Their only mistake is waking up very early to come to church to worship God. How does this child grow up while respecting the government?” he asked.
Amisi warned that Kenyans must not ignore such incidents, saying silence would allow abuses to grow unchecked.
“Kenyans must wake up and fight for their nation before it is too late,” he stated.

He added that danger becomes personal when ignored, urging citizens to act before it reaches their homes.
“When you think that is not my child and remain silent, sooner than later it will be at your doorstep,” he said.
Amisi also rejected the framing of children along political lines, saying every child deserves protection regardless of their parents’ affiliation.
“There is no opposition, Wantam child, and there is no Tutam government child. There is only child of God,” he said.
