Busiega pledges to take over DCP’s legal affairs after exiting Malava contest
Wakili Edgar Busiega, a Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate who recently withdrew himself from the Malava by-election race and agreed to support his worthy opponent from the Democratic Action Party (DAP-K), Seth Panyako, has pledged to take over all legal issues involving the party and its party leader, Rigathi Gachagua.
While speaking during the youth league meeting held at the party headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, he vowed to fully commit himself to the party, with legal representation being one of his main roles within the party.
“Mimi ni wakili nataka nishike kesi yote za chama na Rigathi Gachagua” Busiega said.
Edgar Busiega, who was promised a direct nomination slot to Parliament in 2027 by the party’s deputy party leader, Cleophas Malala, after shelving his parliamentary ambitions, is a popular face in the courtroom.

He has been helping Trans Nzoia County with legal matters and even went a notch higher by representing Governor George Natembeya during his case, which saw Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers arrest him at his Milimani home in Kitale.
He was part of Natembeya’s legal counsel in the case that later saw him acquitted of the charges.

Gachagua seeking lawyer MPs
This comes at a time when the former deputy president is looking to tap into the competence brought forth by members of the legal profession.
He recently faulted Mt. Kenya professionals for not taking part in community affairs and politics, accusing them of concentrating on their own interests rather than the region’s politics, leaving leadership roles to what he termed as “mediocres”.

He compared leaders elected from the Mt Kenya region to those from the Nyanza region, who were elected under the former prime minister, the late Raila Odinga, saying that they outsmart those from Mt Kenya by far.
In this regard, the former Deputy President pleaded with Mt Kenya professionals that out of the 140 MPs he is targeting his DCP party to produce, he wants 40 of them to be lawyers.
He congratulated Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Gatanga MP Edward Muriu, who are lawyers and who, during the Gen Z protests, were always in courtrooms trying to secure the release of youths belonging to the party who had been arrested for involving themselves in the protests on a pro bono basis.
