Bungoma MCAs want Kabuchai MP out for disrespecting Wetang’ula

A fresh storm is brewing within Ford Kenya in Bungoma after Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) allied to Ford Kenya party asked Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga to leave, accusing him of showing open disrespect to their party leader and National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula.

Speaking over the past weekend at Mabanga Agricultural Training Centre during the distribution of coffee seedlings by Senator Wafula Wakoli, Mukuyuni MCA Meshack Museveni lashed out at the Kabuchai legislator, claiming that Majimbo has been maligning the Speaker despite Ford Kenya and Wetang’ula playing a central role in his political rise.

“Majimbo should be honest with the people of Kabuchai. If he feels uncomfortable in Ford Kenya, let him move to DAP-K, where his new allies are,” Museveni said, adding that Wetang’ula deserves respect as the region’s political kingpin.

Museveni’s comments came just days after Majimbo expressed disappointment over his exclusion from a party election in Kabuchai constituency.

The election, which was held to replace the late Chwele/Kabuchai MCA Barasa Mukhongo as the constituency Ford Kenya chairperson, saw Nalondo West MCA Polycarp Kimeta elected chair, deputised by Luhya MCA Edwin Opwora.

The polls were presided over by Bungoma Woman Representative Catherine Wambilianga, who also serves as Bungoma’s Ford Kenya chairperson.

Majimbo argued that the polls were conducted in a hotel rather than at party offices and without his input as the area MP.

“This marks the beginning of a political war between me and the Bungoma Woman Representative. Why was I sidelined? Party rules must be followed to the letter. What was done was an MCA’s election, not a Ford Kenya one,” Majimbo said.

He further questioned Kimeta’s suitability, branding him a newcomer who previously supported his rival during the Kabuchai by-election.

“How can a person who was in UDA yesterday be imposed on us today as Ford Kenya chair? That is wrong,” Majimbo posed.

Despite the backlash, the legislator maintained that he is a bona fide Ford Kenya member, affirming that he is a regular party subscriber.

“I am a legitimate and hardworking MP. I even remit Sh50,000 as a party subscription. How can anyone claim I am not Ford Kenya?” he asked.

The fallout has also dragged in former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, who recently hinted on a local radio station that he would unite with like-minded leaders to weaken Ford Kenya in the region ahead of 2027.

Museveni dismissed Wangamati’s political comeback bid, vowing that the party would front a strong candidate against him.

“If Wangamati thinks he can edge out Ford Kenya in Bungoma, let him come with his party. We are ready for him,” Museveni said.

Majimbo, however, warned that if MCAs continue to undermine him, he will sponsor his own candidate in the upcoming Chwele/Kabuchai by-election. He added that his troubles in Ford Kenya began when he opposed the controversial Finance Bill and the leasing of Nzoia Sugar Company.

“My colleagues in the party should understand that I was elected by the people of Kabuchai to represent their interests,” Majimbo noted.
