Boyd Were calls for respectful dialogue between Sifuna and McOure

By , December 24, 2025

Kasipul Member of Parliament (MP) Boyd Were has called on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and youth leader Kasmuel McOure to resolve their differences internally and with mutual respect.

In a post on X dated December 24, 2025, Were addressed the two leaders directly: “My brothers, Senator @edwinsifuna and @_KasKazini, let us resolve our differences internally and with respect, in the spirit and values of the ODM Party, under the leadership of Oburu Odinga.”

The appeal comes amid heightened internal frictions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following the death of former party leader Raila Odinga in October 2025. The party has been navigating a leadership transition, with Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga ratified as the new leader in November 2025.

Dispute between Sifuna and McOure

The latest confrontation was triggered by a video posted by political activist and ODM youth leader Kasmuel McOure on December 24, 2025. In the video, McOure accused Sifuna of undermining the party’s leadership and the broad-based government arrangement with President William Ruto’s administration.

McOure demanded that Sifuna choose between continuing as Secretary General or pursuing personal political ambitions, including positioning himself as a Luhya community leader in the Mulembe Nation.

“You addressed Governor Orengo directly as though he was the senior-most leader in that gathering, despite the fact that our party leader was there,” McOure stated.

He further alleged that Sifuna was “holding briefs” for individuals outside the party and taking actions that sabotage the broad-based arrangement.

“Sifuna, you must decide whether you want to be the Secretary General of the ODM Party or a village elder advancing the interests of our political enemies and detractors. This is a warning from the youth to you and to leaders of your ilk,” McOure declared.

Youth demand alignment with leadership

McOure reminded Sifuna that his position as Secretary General was by appointment, not election, and criticised him for rarely mobilising in his home turf while speaking confidently in the Luo Nyanza region.

He warned that party members would consider removing Sifuna at the upcoming National Delegates Convention if he did not align with leadership directives.

Emphasising that ODM has only one leader, Senator Oburu Oginga, McOure also appealed to President Ruto to reinforce Oburu’s mandate and allow the youth to manage internal saboteurs.

The confrontation adds to ongoing tensions since Raila Odinga’s death, particularly regarding ODM’s commitment to the broad-based government and preparations for the 2027 elections.
