Atwoli: What Ruto has achieved in 2 years Azimio might not have done it in 5
By Mabonga Makhanu, January 25, 2026Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has stated that what President William Ruto has done in two years, Azimio would not have done in five or even 10 years.
While speaking during a wedding in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, the COTU boss said that what the President has achieved in just two years in office is something the Azimio government he supported, led by the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, might not have achieved even in five years.

“Huyu kijana anaitwa William Ruto. Mimi ndio nilikuwa mpinzani wake mkali; hakuna mwingine hadi nikasema wakate miti huko kwao, lakini ukiangalia ile kazi amefanya kwa miaka miwili, sisi hatungeweza kwa miaka 5 ama miaka 10,” he said.
He went on to cite a number of projects that the President has initiated, including the affordable housing programme in Kisumu, Kakamega, Eldoret, Nairobi, and Kilifi, as key examples. He also mentioned the expected construction of the Rironi–Mau Summit road, which is set to solve traffic congestion on the Nairobi–Malaba highway.
Atwoli further urged Baringo residents to support the President in his quest for re-election in 2027 and not to listen to those opposed to it.
KPAWU reelection
This also comes days after being elected unopposed as the General Secretary of the Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union (KPAWU), securing another five-year term at the helm of the powerful labour union.

In a statement following his re-election on Saturday, January 17, 2026, Atwoli expressed gratitude to KPAWU members for renewing their confidence in his leadership during the Quinquennial Conference at the Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu, terming the outcome a strong endorsement of his record and vision for workers in the plantation and agricultural sectors.
”I want to thank the members of the Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union (KPAWU) for RE-ELECTING me UNOPPOSED for another five (5) year term to the position of General Secretary,” Atwoli said.
This also comes at a time when leaders from his backyard in Western Kenya have decided to form a joint political outfit that they will use to rally for President Ruto’s reelection in 2027.
