Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi has reaffirmed ODM’s commitment to supporting President William Ruto, declaring that the party’s legislators have no intention of abandoning their cooperation under the Broad-based arrangement with the Kenya Kwanza administration in the foreseeable future.

Speaking in Siaya County on Sunday, August 31, 2025, Atandi credited the day’s sermon message about national unity for reinforcing ODM’s approach to working with the current administration.

“Your Excellency, I want to thank His Lord the Bishop for the message of today. The bishop, I think you were speaking to politicians,” Atandi acknowledged.

Atandi noted that the sermon’s call for leaders to put the country above partisan disputes reflected the spirit in which ODM MPs had chosen to cooperate with the Head of State.

“I want to agree with you that this is the trajectory that we took as members of the ODM party, and that is why we are with the president and working together with him,” he stated.

Supporting Ruto

He emphasised how the bishop’s message about prioritising national preservation over political differences had influenced his perspective on ODM’s role.

“You are urging politicians that, despite any differences that we could have, the preservation of the country is more important than any other thing,” Atandi summarised from the bishop’s remarks.

The legislator went on to assure Ruto that ODM MPs backing his administration would not renege on their decision.

“We do not intend to abandon the president in the near future, because we think that would be contrary to your message of today,” Atandi stated.

Ruto – Raila alliance

Atandi’s remarks come barely a day after he stated that the relationship between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga will extend beyond the 2027 general elections.

While speaking during an event in his constituency on Saturday, August 30, 2025, he said that they are true members of the broad-based government and fully support President William Ruto and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

He emphasised that the alliance between Raila and Ruto is going to last beyond 2027, with the aim of ensuring the country achieves conclusive development and national inclusivity.

“We are true members of a broad-based government. We are behind President William Ruto and Prime Minister Raila Odinga. We want to confirm that this alliance between Raila and Ruto is going to last; it’s going to serve its length, and its length is beyond 2027. We are going to work together to ensure that the county attains conclusive development and national,” Atandi stated.
