The Amani National Congress (ANC) has announced the date of its National Delegates Congress meeting.

A press statement seen by People Daily Digital and signed by ANC Secretary-General Simon M. Kamau stated that the convention has been slated for January 23, 2022, at the Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi.

“Pursuant to the provisions of Article 16.4 (b) and Article 47. (2) of the Constitution of Amani National Congress Party (Amended October 2021), and thereunder, I hereby convene the A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE NATIONAL DELEGATES CONGRESS of the Party to be held at 9:00 am on 23 January 2022 at the Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi,” the statement read in part.

The party’s Secretary-General further stated that only four matters will be discussed at the meeting.

“FURTHER, PURSUANT TO THE PARTY CONSTITUTION, ONLY the following matters shall be discussed in the meeting,” the statement read in part before the following four matters were listed.

The avowed purpose of the forum will be to; read the Notice Convening the meeting, ratify specific decisions of the Amani Council, ratify Amani Council nomination of the Party Leader, as the Party’s Presidential Candidate in the National elections scheduled to be held in August 2022 and to ratify amendments to the Amani National Congress Party Constitution.

The announcement of the ANC National Delegates Congress meeting comes a month after the party’s Secretary-General said that persuasions to have its party leader Musalia Mudavadi made the flag bearer of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) ahead of the August general elections was an uphill task.

“We are trying to persuade our partners and show them the value that Mudavadi is bringing as flagbearer for OKA. It is not an easy task, it is quite tough, but negotiations are going on and we urge our supporters to be patient with us,” Gikuru said.

The SG further stated that ANC is committed to OKA adding that the party is keen on ensuring OKA survives this year’s political storm.

“ANC is very committed to the One Kenya Alliance. We are working very hard to see to it that this alliance will survive this political season,” Gikuru said.
