Amisi warns Matiang’i against hasty coalitions after he meets Gachagua

Saboti constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has faulted former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i over his decision to meet the opposition team led by Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Taking to his official X account on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, Amisi argued that Matiang’i had committed a first mistake in his 2027 presidential ambitions.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker went ahead to state that jumping into political coalition photos without studying and understanding their ideology and respective benefactors was a wrong move for Matiang’i.
According to Amisi, one person in the opposition coalition might be secretly working for President William Ruto.
“Mistake number ONE committed. Do not jump into coalitions’ photo sessions without knowing what each party stands for in terms of ideology, political history, and their respective benefactors. I swear one person there can be a current, future, or potential Kasongo protégé; the Internet shall never forget. Wrong move,” Amisi stated.
Amisi’s advice to Matiang’i
He went ahead to suggest that Matiang’i should have instead considered doing one rally alone before meeting leaders in other political outfits.
“#Matiangi should have done one rally alone before such photo sessions, but do I say! Meanwhile, Kenya needs a renaissance!” he stated.

Matiang’i meets opposition
Matiang’i on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, joined the Kalonzo-led opposition team, marking his first ever political meeting to display publicly since returning to the country.
While details of the meeting remain unclear, the high-profile gathering of prominent political figures signals potential realignments ahead of the 2027 general election.
The meeting was also attended by People’s Liberation Party (PLP) party leader Martha Karua, Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) party leader Eugine Wamalwa, Mukhisa Kituyi, Justin Muturi, and former agriculture CS Mithika Linturi.
Karua, through her official X account, posted a photo of them after the meeting welcoming Matiang’i, Muturi, Linturi and Kituyi, hinting at joining forces with them at the People’s Loyal Coalition.
“Welcoming our brothers @DrFredMatiang, @skmusyoka, @rigathi, and @EugeneLWamalwa,” she wrote.
On the other side, Gachagua and Kalonzo welcomed Matiang’i, Muturi, and Linturi to their team, emphasising that they are on the right side of history as they join the movement to liberate Kenya.
“The team to liberate Kenya gets bigger every day. Welcome, Dr Fred Matiangi, Hon. JB Muturi and Hon. Mithika Linturi. You are on the right side of history,” Gachagua posted.
“A very good morning and welcome onboard. This is the team that will komboa Kenya,” Kalonzo said.
However, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, who had been representing Matiang’i when he was still abroad, had already met the opposition team on several occasions.
