Amisi dismisses claims linking Uhuru Kenyatta to Linda Mwananchi funding
Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has fiercely dismissed allegations linking retired President Uhuru Kenyatta to the financing of the Linda Mwananchi grassroots movement.
Speaking during an interview on K24 TV on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the legislator maintained that the Linda Mwananchi pact is not affiliated with retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
On his part, Amisi maintains that he is the mastermind behind the Linda Mwananchi Movement, dismissing remarks that Uhuru Kenyatta is funding the opposition splinter group gaining traction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“Linda Mwanachi has nothing to do with Uhuru Kenyatta,” Amisi said.
Caleb Amisi’s response closely follows Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna, who has also dismissed allegations linking former President Uhuru Kenyatta to the financing of the Linda Mwananchi grassroots movement, terming the claims politically motivated and lacking any factual basis.
Speaking during a morning interview on a local radio station on Thursday, April 30, 2026, Sifuna took direct aim at Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, challenging him to substantiate his assertion that he is aware of financial dealings involving ODM leaders and the former head of state.
At the time, Sifuna questioned the credibility of Murkomen’s remarks, suggesting he has intimate knowledge of opposition leaders’ movements and interactions.
“You heard Murkomen saying that we as politicians are under 24 hours’ surveillance, that Murkomen knows when I sleep and who I sleep with. So he surely must see me receiving money from Uhuru. Why can’t he show the country Uhuru Kenyatta and Edwin Sifuna exchanging money?” Sifuna posed.
Linda Mwananchi formation
Amisi’s remarks come days after he explained how he came about with the formation of the Linda Mwananchi movement before the passing on of the Late Raila Odinga.
Speaking during an interview on Tuesday, April 28, Amisi said he saw the need for an organised opposition force long before the political landscape shifted, and quietly began putting the pieces together while Raila Odinga was still alive.
“I am the most radical. It is only that you have never known me. I am the one who formed Linda Mwananchi but people do not know,” he said.q
He explained that he identified like-minded leaders, reached out to them individually, and brought them together under one roof, with many not even knowing each other at the time.
“I called Senator Edwin Sifuna, MP Babu Owino and told them that we needed to come together. They were shouting #RutoMustGo and had no defined umbrella. They were afraid,” he stated.
