Alai downplays Gachagua’s DCP victories in the November by-elections

By , December 10, 2025

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has downplayed the victories of the Democracy For Citizens Party (DCP) in the concluded by-elections, stating that the party fluked its way to victory.

Speaking to Milele FM on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, Alai also explained the failure by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to clinch the seat that went to David Warui of Rigathi Gachagua’s Skiza Wakenya party.

“In Nairobi, DCP won the Nairobi Kariobangi North MCS seat by chance. They were not even in the polling rating in Kariobangi North,” he stated.

Voter mobilisation

Alai attributed the loss to failure to adequately facilitate and mobilise voters to undertake their democratic rights, leading to apathy.

“In a by-election, unlike general elections, you need to mobilise your voters well and get them to vote. What happened is that there was no voter mobilisation in many areas. Many people never came out to go and vote. At times, you even need to facilitate the movement of voters to polling areas, especially in urban areas where it becomes difficult for voters to abandon their day-to-day routines and chores to go vote,” he posited.

The Rigathi Gachagua-led party won three ward seats in the concluded polls in what was its debut in fielding aspirants at the ward and constituency levels.

The party leader hailed the victories as a testament to the outfit’s growing grassroots presence, coming barely eight months after its formation.

DCP targeting ODM zones

Taking to his X page on Friday, November 28, 2025, Gachagua revealed that the performance had informed their plans for more outreach aimed at popularising the opposition outfit across Kenya and rivalling their competitors.

He added that a planned tour to the coastal region of Kenya to drive recruitment exercises and open new offices was among the first plans.

“This now gives an entry into the Coast Region. I will be on the Coast over the holiday season to meet possible aspirants and establish party offices. Well done, Stanley. We are proud of you!” He stated while commenting on the DCP party’s first-ever candidate to contest an elective seat in the region.
