Alai calls for ban on Aroko and Boyd Were after deadly Kasipul clashes

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take decisive action against independent candidate Philip Aroko and ODM’s Boyd Were following violent clashes that left two people dead in Kasipul Constituency.

In a message posted on his X account on Friday, November 7, 2025, Alai called on the electoral body to intervene to restore peace in the area.

“Hello @IEBCKenya, if sanity can return to Kasipul with the banning of Aroko and Boyd Were, please do it. Don’t allow the reign of terror to persist,” Alai stated.

The MCA’s sentiments come after chaos broke out on Thursday in Central Kasipul Ward when supporters of Aroko and Were engaged in a bloody confrontation during a campaign rally. Two men were hacked to death with machetes as tensions boiled over between the rival camps.

Police have heightened patrols and deployed additional officers to the region as investigations continue. Authorities say they are working closely with the IEBC to maintain calm and prevent any further disturbances ahead of the November 27 by-election.

The Kasipul seat fell vacant earlier this year following the death of former Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were. The upcoming by-election has drawn several candidates, with competition intensifying and tempers flaring as voting day approaches.

In response to the violence, the IEBC issued a strong statement condemning the killings and warning political players against undermining Kenya’s democratic ideals.

“The Commission condemns, in the strongest terms possible, the senseless acts of violence that have led to the loss of lives and injuries,” the electoral body said.

Adding;

“Such undermines the very democratic gains which our country has worked so hard to achieve.”

It reminded all political actors that they are bound by the Electoral Code of Conduct and must uphold peace throughout the campaign period.

“All participants must, without exception, strictly observe the Electoral Code of Conduct and uphold peace, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law during the electoral period,” the Commission stated.

It warned that individuals or parties that violate the law risk being disqualified from the contest.

IEBC has dispatched an investigation team to Kasipul with a clear mandate to uncover what happened and recommend necessary action.

“The Commission has dispatched an investigation team with clear instructions to establish the facts and recommend appropriate action in line with the Electoral Code of Conduct,” IEBC noted.
