Advocate Ndegwa Njiru has issued a warning to President William Ruto, noting that Mount Kenya, despite giving him overwhelming support during the 2022 elections, has largely withdrawn its backing.

In a statement shared on his social media pages on Saturday, April 4, 2026, according to Njiru, the shift in support is not due to Ruto abandoning the people but rather the people themselves turning away from him.

Njiru emphasised that no amount of meetings or financial incentives in the Murima region can restore the former level of support.

He pointed out that the residents of Murima have embraced the “Skiza Ground” slogan promoted by the Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party, which, according to him, is a clear sign that the mountain is no longer interested in the current regime

He further noted that the people of Mt Kenya are largely participating in anti-incumbency actions, commonly referred to as “Wantam”, which is a popular slang used by the opposition to symbolise that the current regime won’t go past 2027

“Someone tell Ruto that it’s not him who left the Murima people, but it’s the Murima people who left Ruto. No matter how many meetings you hold huko kwa Murima, how much money you dish out, watu wa Murima walikutoka. Watu wa murima wanaskiza ground. Watu wa murima wako WANTAM.”

On the other side, seasoned political analyst Herman Manyora has predicted that if the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and his former personal assistant Rigathi Gachagua unite and agree to move together, the mountain will be gone.

While speaking during his daily analysis on the political situation in the country on Friday, April 3, 2026, according to him, should the truce happen as it is now appearing, following the meeting of the two in Kirinyaga, which has since taken the country by storm, the mountain itself will be hostile towards President William Ruto and will be deeply in the united opposition.

Manyora further adds that should the two unite, it will be a significant move, and the whole mountain will fully align itself behind these leaders to the detriment of William Ruto.

“If Uhuru and Gachagua were to sit together and work together, that ends the whole thing. It means the mountain is gone for good and in a big way. Ruto must have been hoping that Uhuru and Gachagua would never work together.”
